City of Yonkers Yonkers, New York Business: City Government Scope of Project
The City of Yonkers was migrating from an old Wang system to a Client server based network. The two main buildings did not have a sufficient infrastructure to provide them with the necessary bandwidth. Solution BN Systems was chosen to Install an IBM designed local area network that linked the two main buildings via a 60-strand MM fiber connection. The floors of each building collapsed to 3 central closets via 12 strands MM fiber. 30 other buildings were collapsed to the main building via ATM circuits. Wayne County had been using dial-up modems to transfer data between 12 buildings and various departments. They wanted to institute a new WAN to facilitate a 100 BASET network configuration for the whole county Solution BN systems was hired to design the entire project, install the fiber, and test the functionality of the entire WAN. In addition, BN systems served as project coordinator between the various other vendors involved in the whole project. The project involved over 12 miles 0f fiber optic cabling both aerial and underground to link the campuses. Benefit The County now has a fully functional WAN with built in Redundancy, and enough bandwidth to accommodate a tripling in the size of the network |
